Parks Volunteer Opportunities
We have many opportunities within the Parks department. Do you want to gain new skills, share your skills, meet new people, steward the land, make our community healthier, get to know your local parks, and help improve the environment for Port Townsend? We want you! Come and be part of a community effort!
- Adopt-A-Park – Group stewardship of Parks: self-organized and routinely scheduled events, working in coordination with the Parks team to increase maintenance capacity.
- Trail Stewards – Group or individual stewardship of trails: choose your favorite area of trails, select the location you can help maintain, and report hazards or trail issues directly to staff
- Weed Warriors – Group work parties focused on removing invasive weeds from City-owned properties and parks.
- Trash Task Force – Group events organized for trash removal in Parks, roadsides and City-owned properties. The program is led by Stephanie Moran and Polly Lyle, who works outside the City Limits as well.
- Youth Opportunities – Students can earn community service credits by joining scheduled service events, and Senior, Science or special projects. For future: School-aged opportunities to partner with stewardship groups for hands-on conservation experience.
- Stewardship Work Parties – Adopt-a-park and stewardship groups welcome neighbors and community members to join park cleanups or service events. Open to the public, registration is required.
- Trail Crew – Port Townsend’s volunteers have a strong legacy of trail building. Join the PT Trails Crew at scheduled work parties and special projects.
- Special Parks Projects – If you have the skills and interest in signing up for one of our special maintenance or improvement opportunities, check our calendar regularly to see what new projects we post that could benefit from sharing your skills. Opportunities rotate as needs are filled.
- Propose A Project – See something? Say something! Shoot us your ideas for a project you’d like to propose, and we will work with you to benefit the community with your service and/or with the help of other volunteers. Past projects have included Repainting the signs at Kah Tai Nature Park, repairing the brick pathway through the Rose Arbor at Chetzemoka and cleaning public art installations.
