Councilmember Neil Nelson
In 2023 Neil and his wife, Stacey, found their forever home in Port Townsend. Coming to Port Townsend after living for over 20 years in Monroe, Washington, Neil was, and continued to be, delighted in the real sense of community we all enjoy here in Port Townsend.
Before moving to Washington, Neil lived for many years in Southern California, having moved there from Odessa, Texas where he spent most of his childhood and teen years.
Since coming to PT, Neil has seen an amazing amount of personal growth. Two of the most important learning opportunities were restarting his construction company, as well as the three years he spent on the Port Townsend Planning Commission, where he was able to learn more about how things work in city government.
He brings over 40 years of experience in home improvement and the construction industry with him to City Council, along with an eagerness to learn and grow with fellow residents in creating an even better community for all of us.
On a more personal note, Neil has played guitar for many years. He is currently a pilot in training, flying frequently out of Jefferson County Airport here in PT. He spends a great deal of time at Port Townsend Athletic Club in pursuit of health and fitness on multiple levels. Married to his wife Stacey for 31 years, they have two wonderful, hardworking sons that they are both proud of.
Firmly believing it an honor and a privilege in becoming one of the City Councilmembers, Neil understands that his most important short-term goals will be in learning all he can to ensure he acquires the tools and knowledge necessary to do the best job he can. Long term goals include using those tools to be a part of the solution, and using his life and business experience to the fullest in pursuit of service to the community and fellow human beings. He wishes most to help our community overcome its inherent challenges, and to help Port Townsend continue to grow and thrive.
